If you’ve looked at the ingredient lists in skincare lately, you’ve probably seen niacinamide popping up everywhere. But at SIOL Skincare, I don’t choose an ingredient simply because it’s popular or trending.
I want to know: What can it actually do for your skin?
Niacinamide—also known as vitamin B3—is one of those ingredients I keep coming back to because it can support several different aspects of healthy-looking skin at the same time.
What Makes Niacinamide So Special?
One of my biggest focuses with SIOL is the skin barrier.
Your skin barrier is essentially your skin’s protective outer layer. When that barrier isn’t functioning at its best, skin may feel dry, tight, sensitive or irritated and can have a harder time holding onto moisture.
Niacinamide can help support the skin’s natural barrier function, including its production of important skin lipids such as ceramides.
And a healthier barrier can mean skin that is better able to hold onto hydration and protect itself from everyday environmental stressors.
It Can Help With the Look of Uneven Skin Tone
Niacinamide is also well known for helping improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and discoloration over time.
This is especially important to me when formulating skincare for mature-looking skin.
Our skin changes as we age. Years of sun exposure, environmental stress and normal changes in the skin can leave our complexion looking less even than it once did.
I don’t believe the goal should be to erase every sign that we’ve lived.
I want skin to look healthy, cared for and radiant at every age.
What About Pores and Oil?
Here’s another reason niacinamide is such a versatile ingredient.
It can help improve the appearance of enlarged pores and help balance the look of oily skin without approaching the skin as something that needs to be stripped or dried out.
That balance matters.
Overly aggressive skincare isn’t always better skincare.
Sometimes supporting the skin produces a much more beautiful result than constantly fighting against it.
Niacinamide + Mature Skin
As someone who created SIOL with mature skin very much in mind, I’m interested in ingredients that do more than one thing.
Niacinamide can help support smoother-looking texture, hydration and barrier function while helping improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven tone and dullness.
That’s a pretty impressive résumé for one ingredient.
And importantly, niacinamide is generally well tolerated when formulated appropriately, making it useful in products designed to fit into an everyday skincare routine.
Why I Use Niacinamide at SIOL
When I formulate, I don’t look at ingredients individually.
I think about how they work together.
Niacinamide can be paired with ingredients such as peptides, hyaluronic acid, ceramides and other barrier-supporting and hydrating ingredients to create formulas that approach skin from several directions.
That’s what SIOL is about.
Not chasing every new skincare trend.
Not convincing women that aging is something they should be ashamed of.
And not filling a bottle with ingredients simply because their names look impressive on a label.
It’s about understanding the science behind ingredients and creating thoughtful skincare that supports the skin.
Because beautiful skin doesn’t have to mean twenty-year-old skin.
It means healthy-looking skin that feels good to live in.
The SIOL Philosophy
I created SIOL Skincare around something very simple:
Science + Nature. Skin with a story.
Every line, wrinkle, freckle and change in our skin is part of that story.
My job isn’t to erase the story.
It’s to help you take care of the skin that’s been there for all of it.
And niacinamide is one of the ingredients I’m proud to include in that journey.
